We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jon Derry as School Sport Canterbury’s new Regional Sport Director. Jon joins School Sport Canterbury with 25 years of experience working in the Sport and Active Recreation sector, much of which has been spent working in and around school and tertiary settings.  Jon has spent the last 14 years working within Sport Canterbury, the Regional Sports Trust for the Canterbury West Coast region. He currently leads the Sector Development Team focused on providing quality experiences for our young people, reducing the drop-off seen in youth sport and putting the participant needs at the centre of decision-making.

Jon has an infectious passion for all sport and is a huge advocate for the opportunities, connections, learning and values it provides for our young people. Jon enjoys participating in a range of sports including Hockey, Cricket, Squash, Climbing, White Water Paddling and more recently Golf.  He now dedicates much of his spare time coaching and supporting his two children, who play a range of sports.

Jon will join School Sport Canterbury on Monday 12th April. “I’m excited and privileged to take on this role as School Sport Canterbury’s Regional Sports Director. I’m looking forward to supporting as many young people as possible to develop a lifelong love of sport and being active, helping them make as many memories and lifelong friends as I did along the way.”
