Canterbury Student Coach Development Program 2024
School Sport Canterbury, Regional Sport Organisations and Sport Canterbury are excited to partner to deliver opportunities for secondary school winter sport student coaches to participate in the 2024 Canterbury Student Coach Development Program. The aim of this program is to enhance the leadership and coaching capabilities of student coaches, boost their confidence, and establish support systems for them within their school sport environments. Development opportunities will be provided through access to online modules and face to face workshops led by experienced Coach Developers.
Delivery Details
Online coaching module information will be provided to registered students prior to the 1-day practical workshop. Where possible, sport specific modules will be provided alongside a generic coaching course.
One day coaching workshops will be held in the following locations during the dates and times listed. These practical workshops will focus on how to coach and provide leadership to young people, as well as what to coach, i.e. sport specific skills and team play.
Workshop Details:
Date & Time – Friday 10 May, 9:30-2:00pm
Venue – Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub
School sport or coach leaders who are responsible for providing student coaches with support are also invited to attend these workshops. During these events, they will be able to observe and learn from appointed coach developers and will be involved by supporting the facilitation of breakout activities.
Where possible, these school sport or coach support leaders will be responsible for providing the student coaches with on-going follow up support as well as a connection to additional coaching or sports resources. Further training opportunities are available for these individuals through regional Coach Developer training initiatives. Information about these opportunities will be distributed to school sport leaders. Registration Information Required:
- Number of student coaches from each school.
- Sports in which student coaches are coaching.
- Names and contact email addresses of school sport or coach leaders
- Whether they will be attending the 1-day coaching workshop
