School Sport Canterbury provides a number of sporting opportunities for students’ with disabilities.

Canterbury Secondary Schools Championship Events 2026

Term 1

  • Athletic Championships – 17th & 20st March, Nga Puna Wai

  • Swimming Championships –  31st March, Paraikore Sport & Recreation Centre 

Term 2

  • Road Race championships – 5th May, North Hagley

  • Cross Country Championships – 4th June, Ascot Park 

Term 3

  • Boccia Championships – 18th August, Cashmere High School

Canterbruy Secondary Schools Boccia Championships

The Boccia Championship & Have a Go Day bring together students of all abilities for a fun, competitive day that celebrates focus, and fair play. It's more than a game – it's a chance to shine!

Boccia Championship, in partnership with Parafed Canterbury

If your primary impairment is physical, will compete as either a thrower or a ramp user

Boccia Have a Go, in partnership with Halberg Foundation & Special Olympics

Event is designed to provide a supportive and inclusive space for students with any disability

This day is all about trying the sport in a relaxed, non-competitive environment

When: Tuesday 18th August, 10am - 12pm

Where: Cashmere High School

Cost: Free

Entry: TBC

Term 4 Disability Play Partnership

This exciting programme is being offered to bring together young people that might otherwise miss out. It has been designed through a collaboration between School Sport Canterbury, the Halberg Foundation, and four keen providers

  • Indoor Football Ribbon Day – 6th May, TBC

  • Volleyball Certificate Day - 12th August - 10am - 2pm @ Cowles Stadium

  • Basketball Ribbon Day – 16th September, TBC
